Information obtained from: Harmon Ledbetter, Edna Ledbetter, 1880-1900 Hunt Co. Census, Virginia Rogers and Hunt Co. birth records by Dorothy Wood Moore 1973-2000 and is found in  "From Tall grass to High Cotton"

Charles L. Ledbetter was born in Hunt County in 1874 to William West Ledbetter and Paralee Roberts, both descendants of early Texas settlers. Charles was a grandson of William A. and Nancy Wood Ledbetter.  Paralee was a daughter of John and Nancy Russell Roberts.
When Charles was a young boy, his parents divorced and Charles lived with his uncle, William M. Davis, (Mary Jane Fulfer Davis_ and other family members in Hunt County.  On Feb. 11, 1896, Charles and Berdie Lee story were married.
Birdie was a daughter of William and Julia Ann Wood Story.  She was born in New Madrid County, Mo. Jan 4, 1881.  Both of her parents died in 1892 and Birdie was brought to Hunt county, along with her sister, Estelle Story.  They remained with various family members for a time.
Birdie and Charles Ledbetter had two sons, Burton who died as an infant, and Edward Harmon who was born Jan. 18, 1898 near Commerce. Harmon Ledbetter and his mother were soon left to fend for themselves, following the death of Charles about 1899.
Birdie and Harmon soon went back to Missouri to be near relatives. Birdie Married Theodore Hedges and they had four children:  Raymond Hedges, b. Oct. 11, 1902;  Clova Hedges, b. Feb. 16, 1908;  Freeman Hedges, b. Sept. 29,  1911; and flora Bell Hedges, b. March 11, 1913 in Pemiscott Co., Mo.  Theodore Hedges died June 16, 1913.
Birdie and Francis M. Fulfer married Jan 28, 1916 and they had two children, Sherman b. Nov 11, 1916 and Loveta b. March 19, 1920.
Harmon Ledbetter visited Hunt County relatives and kept in touch with a few of them.  He married Edna Lee Erwin in Wichita Falls, TX. on Nov. 3, 1924. They had four children.  The family was living in Paragould, Arkansas, on Jan 3, 1978 when Harmon died.
On August 29, 1973 Harmon Ledbetter wrote,  "My mother (Birdie Lee story) was eleven years old when her parents died, three months apart. The family was living on what was then called Black Island, near the Mississippi River in Missouri.  Rosa Alma had been born April 27, 1892. In addition to Rosa and Birdie (11), there were 15-year-old Robert, 13-year-old William A., and 6-year-old Ruth Estelle."
Harmon's account continues, "My grandfather Story served for four years in the Rebel Army and died with a musket ball in his leg.  at that time (1892)  my uncle Harmon Story(William's son from an earlier marriage) was 27 years of age.... he didn't know how to handle five children.  Harmon left the infant, Rosa Alma, with an acquaintance in the area and loaded the other children in a dug out and started down the river to Nettleton, Arkansas.  There he placed the children on a train and sent them to Hunt county where an uncle, A. J. Wood and an aunt Sarah M. Fulfer, lived.  The girls remained in Hunt County and their brothers returned to Missouri."
The deaths of William and Julia Ann Story separated their children. However, the children were able to maintain contact with each other and had strong family ties.
