Gladys M. Carpenter, 92, of Paris, died Tuesday, Sep. 10, 1996, at Paris Nursing Home. Graveside rites will
be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sep. 12, in the Hickory Grove Cemetery near Petty. Officiating will be the Rev. James O'Dell.
The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home. Mrs. Carpenter was born Oct. 27, 1903,
in Roxton, a daughter of George A. and Sara Moore Kirkham. She attended public schools in the Gose Community of Lamar County
and was a member of the Bonham Street Church of Christ. In addition to her work as a homemaker, she was the nursery attendant
at First United Methodist Church more than 30 years. She married C. E. Carpenter Dec. 23, 1925. He preceded her in death in
1955. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Helen C. Carpenter of Garland; two grandsons, Michael Edward Carpenter of Garland
and John Stephen Carpenter and wife Diane of Garland: a half-sister, Thurlow Whitcomb of California and several nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Edward Carpenter in 1995.' *Grave location has not been verified and is assumed
