Cute E. Carpenter

C. E. Carpenter, fire alarm operator for the Paris Fire Department more than 12 years, died Saturday at 11:30 a. m. at St. Joseph's Hospital. He had been suffering from a heart ailment and was in the hospital four or five weeks.

Funeral service, Monday at 2 p.m. will be held in Fry-Gibbs Chapel by Paul Epps of West Paris Church of Christ and the Rev. James Riley of First Baptist church. Members of the fire department will be pallbearers, and burial will be made in Hickory Grove Cemetery, south of Petty.

Mr. Carpenter was born in Lamar County, Dec. 26, 1896, son of Edgar E. and Fannie Carpenter. He attended Grayland and Ben Franklin rural schools and later a business college. A farmer, he had lived at Clarksville before coming to Paris. He had been with the fire department here since July 1, 1943, and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Besides his wife, the former Miss Gladys Kirkham, he leaves one son, Edward B. Carpenter, Houston, and a half-brother, James Fulfer, Roxton.
