John Calvin "Slim" Fulfer died Saturday, March 17 at Washakie Memorial Hospital in Worland. He was 81. He was
born July 30, 1908 in House, New Mexico Territory, a son of John Calvin and Jessie Francis (Ward) Fulfer. He was raised near
Wheeler, Texas on a ranch and had lived in Hot Springs, Ark. for a few years. The family moved back to Wheeler in 1922. He
then worked on a ranch as a foreman before working in the oilfields for a short time. He then moved to Alanreed, Texas where
he and his brother owned a ranch.
The family them moved to Dimmitt, Texas where he worked on construction and built FHA homes. In June, 1929,
he married Mildred Standlee. They were
later divorced. In 1939, he married Jayne Burnham. She died Nov 8, 1981.
He then married Maxine Dupree on Feb 14, 1982 in Worland. He entered the U.S. Navy during World War II and served
on a repair ship. Following the war, he returned to Dimmitt and ranched with his brother until 1957 when he and his son, Lefty,
moved to Owl Creek and Gooseberry to ranch. They owned the ranch, selling it in 1977. He move south of Worland in 1963 and
was a volunteer in the community as a blood pressure taker. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Worland and had
been a member of the Odd Fellows in Texas.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine, of Worland; two sons, J.C. "Lefty" of Kingston, Okla. and S. C. "Stan" of
Houston, Texas; one brother, J. Bradley Fulfer of Hale Center, Texas; six grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren
and 18 step-great-grandchildren.
The service is scheduled for 10 am today in the First Baptist Church in Worland, with the Rev. Bronson Pittman
officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Worland. Veile Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
