COMMERCE - Raymond Ray Speight, 72, of Azle died Sunday at Harris Methodist Northwest in Azle. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Pemberton Funeral Home Chapel in Commerce. Burial is in Sonora Cemetery in Fairlie. On Saturday there is a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Azle.
Born Oct. 21, 1929, in Commerce, he was the son of Fairl J. Speight and Vina Fulfer Speight. Mr. Speight graduated from Commerce High School in 1947 and enlisted in the USAF in 1948. His tours of duty included Great Falls, Mont., Fairbanks and Anchorage, Alaska and Fort Worth and San Antonio. He retired as a chief master sergeant with 31 years' service.
On Nov. 7, 1951, he married Mary Jo Mans in Great Falls, Mont.
Mr. Speight had lived in Azle for 22 years. He was a Protestant.
Surviving are his wife of Azle; two sons, Raymond G. Speight of Okinawa, Japan, and Stephen M. Speight of Baton Rouge, La.; daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Don Hilbert of Seguin; a sister and brother-in-law Rogene and Louis Swinson of Fairlie; stepmother Virgie Speight of Wolfe City; aunts and uncles Mertie Lou and Roy Cherry of Fort Worth, B.B. and Dorothy Fulfer of Azle, Lizzie Acker of Commerce and Maydell Acker of Wolfe City; grandsons Stefan and Daniel Hilbert and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
His parents preceded him in death.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or to a charity of choice.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home
