PICKERING, QUENTIN DALE, 76, of Singer Island, Florida, went to be with the Lord Friday, December 13, 2002. Affectionately known as 'Pick', Mr. Pickering was born to Alonzo and Freda Pickering, March 14, 1926 in St. Anne, Illinois. In 1943, Mr. Pickering began his professional career with the railroad by working for the Chicago and Eastern Illinois as a Telegraph Operator. He joined the navy in 1944, serving in World War II aboard the Troop Transport Ship, U.S.S. Bandera. Resuming his career in 1946, Mr. Pickering would go on to work for the Missouri Pacific and Union Pacific Railroads, retiring after 45 years of service. He dedicated his professional life to the safety and protection of crews on the railroads. He was instrumental in writing the Uniform Code of Operating Rules by which railroads still operate today. An avid White Sox fan from childhood, after moving to St. Louis, Mr. Pickering also became a huge Cardinals fan. Another passion was gourmet cooking. He loved creating and eating sumptuous meals in his kitchen. Besides his parents, Mr. Pickering was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Amberg. Survivors are sons, Kevin Pickering and Rodney Pickering, daughter, Jane Bell, wife Jacquelyn Pickering, all of North Little Rock, AR; daughters, Jean Barnett of Sheridan, AR and Joan Nicoletti of Littleton, CO, three sons-in-law, six grandchildren, numerous other family and friends including Marsha Wilson of Singer Island, FL. A memorial service for Mr. Pickering will be December 22 at 2:00 p.m. at Friendly Chapel Church of the Nazarene, 116 S. Pine St., North little Rock, AR. Memorials may be made to Friendly Chapel Church of the Nazarene.
