Mrs. Ruth Phipps, widow of J. W. Phipps, died of tuberculosis last Friday morning at 10 o’clock at the home of her son, Isaac M. Phipps in the west end of town.
She was born November 15, 1821; died May 4, 1906, aged 81 years, 5 months, 19 days.
She was married before the Civil War, and during the war her husband was a private in Company F, 21st Regiment Indiana Heavy Artilary.
She was a woman of quiet and unassuming manner and was esteemed by all who knew her. For many years she had been a loyal member of the Baptist church.
Short services were held Saturday morning from the residence after which the funeral party left for Old Salem Church in Martin County where the funeral services were held and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at that place.
