Thursday in Pierce Bros. Griffin Mortuary at 1075 E. Daily Drive in Camarillo for Dealva W. Phipps, 85, of Camarillo, a former
Calexico resident who died Saturday in Brighton Gardens nursing home in Camarillo. Mrs. Phipps was born April 20, 1915,
in Morgan, Texas. She married James Phipps in Texas. The Phippses came to Calexico in the 1930s, where they resided most of
their lives. Mrs. Phipps was active in community activities in Calexico for many years. She became a member of Imperial
Crown chapter 311 of the Order of the Eastern Star on Dec. 7, 1953, and served in 1956 as worthy matron, along with her husband,
James, who was worthy patron. She was a lifelong member of Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, James
Phipps, on Feb. 25, 1992. Survivors include her daughter, Geneva Wooten of Camarillo; grandsons, Mark J. and
Paul R. Wooten, both of San Diego; great-grandchildren, Allison and Erik Wooten, both of San Diego; sisters, Lillian M. Stevens
of Granbury, Texas, and Pauline Hopkins of Brownwood, Texas; brothers, Carol M. Cox of Waco, Texas, and Charles B. Cox of
Clifton, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
