ABILENE RESIDENT SINCE 1900 DEAD

Funeral for Ollie Parker, 70, Taylor County resident for 38 years was held this morning at Elliott Funeral Home Chapel with Frank Runnels, Pentecostal Minister officiating.  Burial was in Sweetwater, Texas beside the grave of her husband who died in 1917.
Mrs. Parker died Sunday morning at the home of a son, Joe Parker, 733 Cherry Street, after a 3 month illness.  She was born at Commerce on November 14, 1868.
Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Mary Holbrook, Sweetwater and Mrs. Elna Kelsey, Dallas.  Eight sons, Sam, Joe, Lee, Jim, D.F. of Abilene, Mart of Locker, George of Rowden, Jess of Parker, AZ.  A brother and a sister, 30 granchildren and 4 great grandchildren also survive.

I can tell you for a fact that he died February 21, 19l7 in Sweetwater, Texas and is buried there (referring to Lewis Alexander Parker).  Ollie died here in Abilene and they buried her next to him in Sweetwater.  Sweetwater is about 45 minutes west of Abilene.  Lewis Alexander and my granddad, George W. Parker and my grandmother, Parthenia Sargent Parker, went to Roswell, New Mexico and homesteaded land there.  Parthenia's mother was also with them along with the younger Parker boys and Mary Parker.  My Aunt Christine was born in Roswell and Parthenia's mother died while they were there and was buried in the Roswell Cemetery.  For her 97th birthday myself and some of the other granddaughters purchased a tombstone and took it to Roswell for my greatgrandmother's grave.  Grandma had always wanted a "Marker" for her grave.
After Great Grandma Sargent died Lewis A. Parker "took sick" and wanted to come back to Sweetwater.  They all loaded up, left their homestead and came back to Texas.  He died in Sweetwater shortly after they arrived back home.  The homestead was a favorite story in our family for years. They lived in a dug out and to get to Roswell by horse and buckboard they drove to the "Old Red Mill" spent the night and arrived at Roswell the next afternoon.  I have actually been to the site but only because my husband has a cousin who is a Dentist in Roswell and his Dad at 89 remembered where the "OLD Red Mill" was located and where the homesteaders lived.  Isn't that great!  Too long a letter but I wanted you to be reassured that the death date you have is correct.  The other one must be someone else.
