Funeral arrangements are pending at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland for Velma Rule Neumann, age 82, of Highland,
who died at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, 2003, at her residence. A complete obituary will be in a later edition of the Intelligencer.

Velma Rule Neumann, age 82, of Highland, died at 1 a.m. on Sunday, March 23, 2003, at her residence. She was born on
Oct. 13, 1920, in St. Jacob, the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Jane Carter Rule. She married Donald Neumann on July
9, 1941, at Alton Methodist Church. He survives. Also surviving is a daughter: nancy Neumann of Highland; a son: Roger Neumann
and wife, Diane of Magnolia, Texas; two grandchildren: Sherri Patterson and husband, Danny of Glen Carbon, and Shelly Damore
and husband, Dr. Steve Damore of Newport Beach, Calif.; and four great-grandchildren: Zachary and Nicholas Patterson, both
of Glen Carbon, and Bailey and Sophia Damore, both of Newport Beach, Calif. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in
death by three brothers: William, Charles and Clarence Rule; and six sisters: Frances Rickker, Helen Gindler, Alice Schmitt,
Della Gross, Elaine Neumann, and Julia Rule. Mrs. Neumann worked at the heel factory in Marine and later at a heel factory
in St. Louis. After marriage, she continued to work in St. Louis and cleaned houses. She and her husband farmed for over 53
years, raising cattle and grain, and later just grain. She enjoyed arts, crafts and baking pies, and was well known for square
dancing at the Weinheimer's Senior Citizens Center. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25, and from
8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 26, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. Funeral services will begin at 11
a.m. on Wednesday, March 26, at the funeral home with Rev. Dave Trower, pastor of the Pocahontas United Methodist Church,
officiating. Interment will be at Keystone Cemetery in St. Jacob. Pallbearers will be Robert Rickker, Norman Schmitt, Glenn
Neumann, Lee Neumann, Mike Kuhn and Mike Frey. Memorials are suggested to the Arthritis Foundation.

Funeral services were conducted for Velma Rule Neumann at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at Spengel-Boulanger
Funeral Home in Highland with Rev. Dave Trover, pastor of the Pocahontas United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment was
at Keystone Cemetery in St. Jacob. Pallbearers were Robert Rickher, Ronnie Schmitt, Glenn Neumann, Lee Neumann, Doc Frank
and Danny Patterson.
