Newspaper Article
Conroe Courier
February 21, 1989

Woman is killed by fire, mobile home is gutted.
Conroe:  Investigators are awaiting autopsy results to confirm the identity of a woman whose badly-burned body was found in the remains of a mobile home consumed by fire Sunday morning.
Investigators think they found the body of Sherry Ann Everett Peacock, 40, was found in the remains of her mobile home in the 41,000 block of Brenda Lane, near Magnolia, early Sunday morning, said Montgomery County Fire Marshal Dan Welsh.  The body has not been positively identified.
Welsh said the cause of the 5:45 am fire and the victim's death is still under investigation.  He said the fire did not appear to have suspicious origins, but the amount of the destruction caused by the blaze will make determining its origins difficult, he said.
Magnolia Volunteer Fire Department Station Three Capt. Chuck Ringler said, "From reports we got it was totally involved when we were called. When we got there the house was totally involved and the roof had fallen in.  After we extinguished the fire we found the body.
Welsh said, "I got a call telling me they had a person missing at the house.  About an hour later they called me and told me they had a body out there."
Hank Bardenhagen, the first fire investigator on the scene, said paramedics on the scene were helpful in identifying the remains as a body.
Welsh said Peacock, who was a widow, lived in the mobile home with her only son, Tracy Tilotta, 23, who last saw her about midnight at her Brenda Lone mobile home.
She has not been seen since the blaze and information from nearby family members indicated Peacock was the victim.  "They were quite sure it was her.  We'll have to wait for an autopsy to be sure," Welsh said.

Crossville, Tennessee Newspaper
1936
Mrs. Cora Rodgers, aged 18, passed away at Chamberlain hospital, Rockwood, Monday night at 8:30 o'clock as a result of premature child birth.

The deceased was the wife of Harvey Rodgers of Roxton, Texas.  They came here from Texas about three months ago and Mr. Rodgers was working for his uncle, L. T. Stanley, who operates a shuttle block plant in Crossville.

Mrs. Rodgers was taken to Rockwood last week and her condition continued to grown worse until she passed away Monday night. The couple had been married approximately two years.  The body was shipped to Texas Tuesday afternoon for burial.

Many expressions of sympathy were heard by Crossville citizens when it became known that Mrs. Rodgers had passed away.  The body was prepared for shipment at the mortuary of Bilbrey Brothers.  It was noticeable that when a few of our people viewed the remains there was evidence of deep grief on their faces as they contemplated the beautiful bride of less than two years lying in the cold grasp of death.

Newspaper Article

MANSFIELD - The school district broke ground yesterday on a $9.6 million intermediate school that will carry the name of a beloved principal who died of cancer last year.
The Donna Shepard Intermediate School, at the northwest corner of Business 287 and Debbie Lane, is the first of four new schools funded by an $80 million bond program to begin construction. It is scheduled to open for the 2001-02 school year.
A crowd of school officials and other residents braved a whipping wind and threatening clouds to watch a row of officials with gold- painted shovels turn the first dirt.
"We are recognizing Donna Shepard as an administrator of this district who made a tremendous contribution to education," Superintendent Vernon Newsom said at the start of the brief ceremony.
Shepard, who was principal of Mary Orr Intermediate School, battled what started as liver cancer for four years, but rarely missed a day of school. She taught students and co-workers a lesson in determination as she often carried her intravenous nutrition and chemotherapy chemicals around the school in a backpack or on a cart.
Two years ago, many of her admirers wanted her name on another new intermediate school that was about to open and replace the old Mary Orr building.
But Shepard wasn't among the lobbyists for that honor.
"She said, 'Not while I'm alive,'" her mother, Evangeline Brewer, recalled after the yesterday's groundbreaking. "It should be named for someone more important, she felt like."
