MATTOON - Warren E. Hagan 76, of Hurst, Texas, formerly of Mattoon, a civil engineer and land development consultant,
passed away Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001, at a Bedford hospital. Mr. Hagan had suffered a stroke Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001. Funeral:
3 p.m. Thursday at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel, Colleyville, Texas. Burial: Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Mr. Hagan
was born Dec. 5, 1924, in Mattoon, Ill., the son of Homer and Dora Hagan, and twin brother of Glenna Maxine Hagan Adams. He
served in World War II as a tank commander. Upon returning from the war, he attended the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy
in Rolla, Mo., graduating with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi, National
Honor Society and awarded top honors for his academic achievements and 1950 Student Award, and completed a four-year degree
in less than three years. After completing college, he worked for a short period of time, in Paducah, Ky., as a field
engineer during the designing and construction of one of the first nuclear power plants in the country. Mr. Hagan then returned
to Illinois taking employment as a Design Engineer with Chastain Engineering. He then started his own engineering firm in
Decatur in 1959. His Decatur business was Warren E. Hagan Consulting Engineers, Inc. In 1981, Mr. Hagan relocated his business
to Northeast Tarrant County, Texas. To date he was managing his successful engineering firm. Mr. Hagan was actively involved
in many associations and community service works. He was a member of Illinois Society of Professional Engineers, life member
of Illinois Registered Land Surveyors Association, life member of the Society of Engineers, American Society of Professional
Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Right of Way Association,
National Association of Home Builders, charter life member of Sertoma Service Club, Home Builders Association of Illinois,
Tarrant County Home Builders Association and Masonic Lodge of Illinois. He held engineering licenses in the states of Illinois,
Nevada, Texas, Missouri, Indiana and Kentucky. He was also appointed by the Illinois governor to serve on the Illinois Board
of Examiners. Mr. Hagan's successful engineering and development projects ranged from Hickory Point Regional Shopping Regional
Mall, various state highways, K-mart facility, Blockbuster Video, many Walgreens drugstores and Sonic Drive-ins. He designed
hundreds of subdivisions in Illinois and Texas, including the luxurious Montclair Parc in Colleyville, Texas, Silverwood,
Hudnell Farms, Twin Lakes Addition, Twin Lakes Plaza Retail and Clairemont. Mr. Hagan's talented work has been admired and
respected for many years. In his youthful days, Mr. Hagan was a great bowler, with perfect form, always scoring a 200
for his league. He dabbled in boxing during the war and was an avid golfer. He often bragged to his children and grandchildren
of his one armed pull ups, giving evidence of the great athletic shape he was in during his younger days. He was a take control,
get it done personality. A true "Rock of Gibraltar" providing foundation and stability for his family. "Each life is a miracle
that changes the world and leaves it a better place than it was before." Mr. Hagan has made so many great contributions to
our world. He will be truly missed by his family and friends. Survivors: wife, Betty L. Hagan of Hurst; son, Larry W.
Hagan and granddaughter, Michelle Hagan, both of Denver, Colo.; daughter, Sherry D. Hagan Sandage, husband, Rick Sandage,
and grandsons, Joey Sandage and J. R. Sandage, all of West Frankfort, Ill.; daughter, Kristina L. Hagan Dunow, husband, Joey
Dunow, and grandchildren Dustin L. Pence and Jessica A. Pence, all of Argonne, Wis.; son, Michael E. Hagan, wife, Gloria J.
Hagan and new 5-month-old grandson, Ethan Kade Hagan; twin sister, Glenna Maxine Hagan Adams; many nieces, nephews, sister-in-laws
and brother-in-laws; and his "best friend," Tiger, who sits at his chair everyday, waiting for his doggy treat.
