CARVER

Funeral services for Harvey Carver, 85, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 29, in the Phillips and Luckey Chapel with burial in I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Rev. Charles Cox of First Christian Church officiated.

Mr. Carver died Saturday afternoon, June 27, in Richards Memorial Hospital. He had been in failing health since January. He was a lifelong resident of Rockdale. He was born Nov. 8, 1906, in Rockdale to Mr. and Mrs. George (Lula Driggers) Carver. He was an auto mechanic, retiring from Gaither Motor Co. on August, 1971.

Mr. Carver and Willard (Clymore) Davenport were married Dec. 16, 1952, at the First Christian Church parsonage in Rockdale.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters, and a step-son.

Survivors include his wife, Willard Carver of Rockdale; two step-sons, Charles Eugene Davenport of Katy and Larry Wayne Davenport of Salinas, California; a step-daughter, Wilma Jean Fritz of Montgomery; a brother, James Carver of Abilene; a sister, Stella Hutto of Houston; also, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Graham Young, Babe Baker, Gary Walker, Clifford Bartlett, Gene Kornegay and Guy Pruett.

Honorary pallbearers were Veterans of Foreign Wars members Marvin Hall, D. C. Knott, Edell Kirchenwitz, J. D. Caffey, James E. Luckey, Barnie Henderson, Clarence T. Krenek, Otha R. Lumpkins and Monroe Mortimer.

Mr. Carver was a member of First Christian Church, Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart for action in the European Theatre of Operations.
