FREDERICK _ Funeral for Phillip Truette "Boogie" Matthews, 72, Frederick, will be at 10 a.m. today in Gish Funeral
Home Memorial Chapel, Frederick, with the Rev. Charles Wyatt, pastor of First Baptist Church, Frederick, and the Rev. Mart
Hardin, Duncan, officiating.
He died Monday in a Frederick hospital following a lengthy illness.
Private family burial will be in Frederick Memorial Cemetery.
He was born July 21, 1925, in Tillman County. He graduated from Weaver Schools. He joined the Marine Corps and
served during World War II. He was a heavy artillery crew man and fought in the Asiatic Pacific Area from March 28, 1944 to
Nov. 11, 1945. He participated at Okinawa and Iwo Jima from April 6, 1945 to Oct. 26, 1945. He was honorably discharged on
March 1, 1946, in San Diego. After the war, he began farming until his retirement in 1991. He married Loyce Marie Laney on
Nov. 9, 1947, in Frederick. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 249 of Frederick. He was a member of First Baptist Church,
Frederick.
Survivors include his wife, of the home, and a daughter, Tracy Matthews, Oklahoma City.
