Shady Grove--Funeral services for Jodie Fortenbury will be at 2 p.m. today at Shady Grove Baptist Church with burial in Shady Grove Cemetery. Rev. Robert Baldridge will officiate.

 

A resident of the Shady Grove community, Mr. Fortenbury died Tuesday in Paris. He was 76.

 

The son of Edgar David and Ollie Mary Turner Fortenbury, he was born Oct. 22. 1919, in Commerce. He married Marie Fulfer Turner in Greenville on Dec. 6, 1945. They had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1995.

 

Mr. Fortenbury lived most of his life in the Commerce and Shady Grove communities. He graduated from public school. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and served during the World War II. He was equipment manager in the physical education department at East Texas State University for almost 24 years. He retired in 1990. He was a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church for 40 years, where he was a deacon and was a member of the Adult Class.

 

Survivors include his wife, Marie Fortenbury of Shady Grove; daughter and son-in-law, Ann Marie and Cloyce Robnett of Commerce; sister, Bernice Keeth of Irving; brother, Carson Fortenbury of Commerce; four grandchildren, Jana and Bill Kerlee of Clovis N.M., Jay Robnett, Julie and Bubba Jones, all of Commerce, Jodie and Nichol Robnett of Cumby; and seven great-grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

 

Pemberton Funeral Home, Commerce, in charge.

 

Pallbearers, will be Jay Robnett, Jodie Robnett, Bill Kerlee, Harold "Bubba" Jones, Jack Wall and Bob Woodworth. Deacons of Shady Grove Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
