Edith Matthews Fleming, 95, died Friday, March 6, 1998, in her Thornberry, Texas, home.

 

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Thornberry Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Lawson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Charlie, Texas, Cemetery under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home.

 

Mrs. Fleming was born Nov. 16, 1902, in Delta County, Texas. She was a homemaker and a member to the Thornberry Baptist Church, where she was the organist and a former pianist. She was the Women's Missionary Union president for many years and received a 50-year certificate for playing for Vacation Bible School. She was a princess for the Clay County Pioneer Reunion in 1969. Her husband, William Marvin Fleming Sr., died in 1962. A son, William Marvin Jr., died in 1934.

 

Survivors include a daughter, Joan Dowdy of Thornberry; three sisters, Clara Bessie Crumpler and Loretta Kiser, both of Wichita Falls, and Onetta Marshal of Brownwood, Texas; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

 

The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 this evening for visitation.

 

Memorials may be made to the Thornberry Baptist Church Association.
